Victor Wembanyama is not value at 33 cents for 2027 NBA MVP
Victor Wembanyama at 33¢ on Kalshi is a 33% implied chance to win the 2027 NBA MVP, but a win-share leap capped at Nikola Jokić's 2025-26 total puts a fair number at 27.3%, a negative edge of 5.7 percentage points.
Kalshi last traded Victor Wembanyama at 33¢ to win the 2026-27 NBA Most Valuable Player on October 18, 2026, which reads as a 33% chance before fees. The figure behind the 27.3% estimate is the 2025-26 win-share table: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 15.2, Nikola Jokić 14.9, Wembanyama 10.0 and Luka Doncic 9.5. The rest of this piece shows that arithmetic and where 33¢ would become fair.
How Kalshi prices the 2027 NBA MVP
If Victor Wembanyama wins the Pro Basketball Most Valuable Player for the 2026-27 season, this Kalshi contract resolves to Yes. Settlement sources are the NBA and ESPN, and the market closes early once the award is known. Otherwise expected expiration is July 31, 2027 at 14:00 UTC. A Yes share pays 100¢ or nothing, so the cents are the implied probability before fees.
On October 18, 2026 the last was 33¢, bid 32¢, ask 34¢. About 1,346 contracts sat on the bid. The No book was 66¢ to 68¢. His volume was about $201,516, and a November headline can still move it.
How the 27.3% figure is built
Basketball-Reference's 2025-26 MVP voting page lists win shares of 15.2, 14.9, 10.0 and 9.5 for those four. The pile is 49.6. His share is 10.0 divided by 49.6, or 20.2%. Holding him there would copy last year onto a 22-year-old who just played in the Finals.
Swap his 10.0 for Jokić's 14.9 and the new sum is 54.5. Then 14.9 divided by 54.5 is 27.3%. He gets the runner-up's production. Nobody else declines. Win shares estimate wins from the box score. They are not a ballot, the sample is one season, and the method ignores fees. A buyer at 33¢ needs the true chance to clear 33% plus the exchange's charge. The sample cannot prove he will miss. It can call 33¢ rich.
Is Victor Wembanyama at 33 cents value for the 2027 NBA MVP? No. On October 18, 2026, Kalshi last traded the 2026-27 award at 33¢ for him, with buyers at 32¢ and sellers at 34¢. Because the contract pays 100¢ if he wins, that last price is a 33% chance before fees. The estimate here is 27.3%. Start from the four win-share totals on the 2025-26 awards table, 15.2, 14.9, 10.0 and 9.5. Replace his 10.0 with Jokić's 14.9 and divide 14.9 by 54.5. The gap to 33% is 5.7 percentage points against the Yes. Skip the replacement, divide the real 10.0 by 49.6, and the share is 20.2%, further from the price. A friendly rewrite of last season still does not reach 33¢. The exchange fee sits on top of that 33%, so a buyer needs a slightly higher chance than the last trade. The Yes is the expensive side of the contract.
Polymarket's event, "NBA: 2026-27 MVP", showed 30.5¢ on October 18, between a 29¢ bid and a 32¢ ask, with a 35¢ last trade. About $420 had traded on his name inside an event of about $4,754. A 2.5-point gap on that volume is a hint. The end stamp is 03:59 UTC on July 1, 2027.
"To me, it probably comes down to Wemby and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, since I don't believe the Nuggets, Lakers or Heat will have enough success as a team to take any of their stars over Wemby or SGA."
Noah Rubin, fantasy basketball writer, NBC Sports (NBC Sports, October 7, 2026)
DraftKings, on that October 7 NBC Sports card, had Wembanyama at +210 / 3.10. Dividing 100 by 310 gives 32.3%, and the book's margin is still inside it. Gilgeous-Alexander was +350 (22.2% raw). Jokić was +500. Doncic was +550. Antetokounmpo was +1200. Those raw chances do not sum to 100. Kalshi's 33¢ sits beside a vigged favourite. Stripping the margin would lower the sportsbook probability, not reveal a bargain.
| Side | Market price | Implied prob | Our estimate | Edge (pp) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wembanyama Yes | 33¢ | 33% | 27.3% | −5.7 |
| Wembanyama No | 67¢ | 67% | 72.7% | +5.7 |
Sources: Kalshi public market API, October 18, 2026 (Yes last 33¢, so the complement is 67¢, and the No book was 66–68¢). Estimate: Basketball-Reference 2025-26 MVP win shares, with his 10.0 replaced by 14.9. No vig removal on the Kalshi cents. The cents are the probability before fees.
Why 10.0 win shares do not support 33 cents
Gilgeous-Alexander won with 83 first-place votes, 939 points and a 0.939 share, on 15.2 win shares in 68 games, averaging 31.1 points with 4.3 rebounds. Assists were 6.6. Jokić was second on a 0.634 share and 14.9 win shares. Wembanyama was third: five first-place votes, 569 points, a 0.569 share, 10.0 win shares.
Across 64 games he averaged 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds, plus 3.1 blocks, the league lead on his line. The page lists him as the 2025-26 Defensive Player of the Year, and All-NBA voters gave him 498 points out of 500. The ballots still ranked that season third.
| Player | 2025-26 win shares | Share of 49.6 | Kalshi last, Oct 18 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gilgeous-Alexander | 15.2 | 30.6% | 15¢ |
| Jokić | 14.9 | 30.0% | 14¢ |
| Wembanyama | 10.0 | 20.2% | 33¢ |
| Doncic | 9.5 | 19.2% | 15¢ |
Sources: win shares and the top four of the vote from Basketball-Reference, 2025-26 awards. Kalshi lasts from the same October 18, 2026 read. Shares are each total divided by 49.6. They are a production split, not four separate forecasts. The four lasts sum to 77¢ because each name is its own contract.
Read across. A 20.2% share of the win shares is priced at 33¢, while a 30.6% share is priced at 15¢. Jokić's 30.0% is 14¢. Doncic's 19.2% is 15¢. Win shares do not watch highlights, which is why they are useful this far ahead of the first tip. Defence is the obvious thing they might miss, and the blocks are already inside the 10.0.
The 2025-26 standings list Oklahoma City at 64-18 and San Antonio at 62-20, a +8.3 net. The Spurs reached the Finals and lost 1-4. Repeating 62 wins would look like the year that finished third.
He played 64 games. The season before, his player page lists 46, so a 33% price assumes availability that has not been automatic. Rubin narrowed the race to Wembanyama and Gilgeous-Alexander. On that reading Kalshi still has the reigning winner at 15¢ against 33¢ for the player further down the win-share list.
Voters can change their mind, and a third season is not a destiny. That objection does not supply a bigger number than 27.3% without inventing one. Once you need him to outproduce Jokić's 14.9 win shares while the other three stand still, you are no longer describing 2025-26. You are hoping.
The 33¢ price is not value, and the second way into that answer is the vote itself. Wembanyama's 0.569 share was a clear third, not a photo finish, behind 0.939 and 0.634. San Antonio's 62-20 season and a Finals trip were not enough to reorder those three names. The 27.3% estimate already hands him Jokić's entire win-share total and asks the other three to repeat themselves exactly. That is a generous story, and it is still 5.7 percentage points short of Kalshi. The no-leap share, 20.2%, is 12.8 points short. DraftKings at +210 on October 7 was a raw 32.3% before margin, level with Kalshi rather than a discount to it. Gilgeous-Alexander, the man who just won the award, was 15¢ on the same Kalshi board. Nothing in the public table says the favourite is the cheap side.
The case for Wembanyama anyway
Ranking him first is not silly. The silly part is treating 33% as the only size "first" can be. A year ago the Spurs were not a Finals team. They became one with him as the centre, the Defensive Player of the Year, and an All-NBA forward-centre, still 22, who drew five first-place votes. People buying 33¢ are buying the next step, and the next step is not a fantasy.
"Still, it comes back to Wembanyama, in part because he'll also have a massive defensive impact that can't be overlooked, and at age 22 his offense is improving each year."
Kurt Helin, lead NBA writer, NBC Sports (NBC Sports, October 7, 2026)
Helin's panel did not split. Every published pick landed on Wembanyama. Blocks sit inside the 10.0, but the way a 7-foot-4 defender warps a series is harder to park in a cell. San Antonio's team page records a seven-game Western Conference final against Oklahoma City, and the player page lists him as the 2025-26 Western Conference Finals MVP. A voter who watched that series can justify more than 20.2%.
Fatigue belongs in the case. Gilgeous-Alexander has won twice in a row, and October picks hesitate to make him a third. That is not a 13-point gift of win shares. The 27.3% figure already prices the leap. It does not require 33%.
Doncic averaged 33.5 points for a Lakers team that won 53 games. Jokić's season would have won the award in a quieter year. Antetokounmpo was on the DraftKings card at +1200. Any one of them can post the best four months of the year. A 33% price says Wembanyama beats all of them, and beats a two-time winner, about one time in three. That is plausible. It is not cheap.
Championship prices are a different contract. Our August deep dive on San Antonio to win the 2027 title priced the Larry O'Brien Trophy, not this award, so those cents are not a live MVP quote. An earlier championship board had the Spurs and the Thunder in front of that separate market. The Cameron Boozer Rookie of the Year piece is a third contract again.
Where this bet breaks
Yes at 33¢ is rich against 27.3%, and richer still against 20.2%. It breaks if any of these show up.
- The Yes trades at 27¢ or lower. At the estimate, the gap is gone. A lower price can be value on a different day. It is not this claim.
- After 30 Spurs games he is averaging 28 points or more, still near 3 blocks, and San Antonio is on a 60-win pace. That is the leap the 14.9 win-share cap was only guessing at. If it is already on the sheet, 33¢ can be fair and the "rich" label should come off.
- Gilgeous-Alexander or Jokić misses more than 15 games. The estimate keeps both of their 2025-26 totals in the denominator. Take one of those seasons off the board and his share of what is left rises. The comparison has to be rebuilt, not defended.
- He plays fewer than 55 games, or he is out for a month before the new year. Then 27.3% was too high, not too low. The Yes is a worse buy. Calling 33¢ merely 5.7 points rich would describe a different, smaller chance.
Board facts and box-score facts are the test. A podcast saying he "looks like the MVP" in week two is not one of them. Nor is a single 40-point night on the second night of a back-to-back. The estimate moves when the season total starts to move.
What to watch from opening night to the vote
Minutes matter more than the opener's highlight. A Basketball-Reference note dated October 18, 2026 says coach Mitch Johnson confirmed Fox would start beside Castle, with Harper and Vassell also in the group. The MVP case needs Wembanyama's own minutes in the high 20s, not a 22-minute cap that echoes 2024-25.
- October 7, 2026. NBC Sports prints DraftKings at +210 / 3.10 for Wembanyama, a raw 32.3%.
- October 18, 2026. Kalshi last is 33¢, bid 32¢, ask 34¢. Polymarket shows 30.5¢ on thin volume.
- October 20, 2026. The regular season opens with Oklahoma City at San Antonio, the two-time winner against the favourite, in the building.
- July 1, 2027, 03:59 UTC. Polymarket's event end, 11:59 p.m. Eastern on June 30, 2027.
- July 31, 2027, 14:00 UTC. Kalshi's expected expiration if the award has not already closed the market.
Above 40¢ the gap against 27.3% is in double digits. At 27¢ the claim expires. A healthy Gilgeous-Alexander at 25¢ would follow the win-share order.
By the All-Star break the fraction should use this season's minutes and wins. Under 27%, October was the rich price. Above it, the disconfirmation list has already fired.
FAQ
What are the 2027 NBA MVP odds for Victor Wembanyama?
On Kalshi, on October 18, 2026, his Yes last traded at 33¢, with a 32¢ bid and a 34¢ ask. That is a 33% market-implied probability before fees. Polymarket showed 30.5¢ the same morning on a thin book. DraftKings was +210 / 3.10 on October 7, 2026, a raw implied chance of 32.3% before the sportsbook's margin. The season opens on October 20.
Is Victor Wembanyama at 33 cents value?
No. The estimate used here is 27.3%, which is 5.7 percentage points under the Kalshi last price. That 27.3% already assumes his win shares rise from 10.0 to Jokić's 14.9 while the other three leaders repeat their 2025-26 totals. His actual share of those four win-share totals was 20.2%. Both numbers say 33¢ is rich.
What would change the 2027 NBA MVP price?
A Yes at 27¢ would close the gap, as would 30 games at 28 points on a 60-win pace. A long absence for either rival forces a rebuild. His own absence makes 33¢ richer. Kalshi's expected expiration is July 31, 2027.
Oklahoma City visits San Antonio to open the regular season on October 20, 2026, and Kalshi's rules put expected expiration at 14:00 UTC on July 31, 2027 if the award has not already closed the contract.
