Team Liquid signs Malr1ne for the 2026-27 Dota season
On August 21, 2026, Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak was still the mid laner for Team Falcons, and Team Liquid beat that side 2-1 in the lower bracket of The International. On October 15, 2026, Liquid signed the 22-year-old, who has nine Tier 1 titles to his name, to replace Michał "Nisha" Jankowski for the 2026-27 Dota 2 season.
"The final piece to the puzzle 🧩 Welcome @Malr1ne_ to the team. Let's get to work 😎," the Team Liquid Dota account posted that day. (Team Liquid on X)
Strafe reported that the announcement video has coach William "Blitz" Lee calling Malr1ne during his honeymoon, with former teammate Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf in the clip. A wedding-week cold call is an odd way to fill a mid lane.
A 2-1 in Shanghai, then a contract
Liquipedia's draft record from that best-of-three, first to two games, has Malr1ne on Earthshaker, Lina and Sand King. Falcons left The International 2026 in seventh to eighth and collected $156,300. Liquid, still with Nisha at mid, finished fifth to sixth on $195,300 after Team Spirit knocked them out. The two organisations had entered Shanghai as direct invites. The October contract puts Malr1ne on the side that eliminated him.
Malr1ne's Falcons spell on Liquipedia runs from November 11, 2023 to September 6, 2026. The peak was The International 2025, a 3-2 grand final over Xtreme Gaming with a first-place purse of $1,224,732. He was born on September 17, 2004. GosuGamers credits him with eight further Tier 1 titles on that team, and puts the five-man record at 523 wins from 799 games, a 65.46% win rate. Liquipedia's approximate career earnings for him sit at $1,416,990. That rate belongs to a five that no longer exists.
The mid lane Nisha left on September 28
Nisha joined Liquid in December 2022 after four years at Team Secret. Across four years with the organisation he helped win six Tier 1 events, including The International 2024, before Liquid announced on September 28, 2026 that he was stepping away from competition. (GosuGamers) Eight days earlier, on September 20, the team had signed Adrián "Wisper" Céspedes Dobles to replace Marcus "Ace" Hoelgaard in the offlane.
Stand-in Nai Zheng "MidOne" Yeik took the mid lane at BLAST Slam VIII, and Liquid finished ninth to 12th on October 2, 2026. Before a permanent name was public, William "Blitz" Lee wrote on October 3, "New roster in 2 weeks, see y'all for the next tournament! Contracts and stuff take a while =)." (Blitz on X) The timing matched. The player did not appear for another 12 days.
Separately, the organisation had already been in the market on a different game, including Liquid's Counter-Strike 2 signing of Jorko.
BLAST Slam VI on February 15, 2026 was a 3-1 over Natus Vincere (NAVI) for $400,000, and 1win Essence II on August 5 was a 3-0 over Falcons. Both of those Tier 1 wins still belong to Nisha's mid lane. Malr1ne was on the losing side of the August 5 final, then on the losing side again in Shanghai. Team Liquid have now hired the mid laner they beat twice.
PARI Universe is a debut, not a verdict
Michael "miCKe" Vu stays on the carry, Malr1ne takes the mid lane for Team Liquid, Wisper plays the offlane, and Samuel "Boxi" Svahn lines up with Erik "tOfu" Engel in support. William "Blitz" Lee remains coach, and Liquipedia still lists Mathis "Jabbz" Friesel beside him as coach and analyst. (Liquipedia) That five opens at PARI Universe, an online Tier 1 event organised by FISSURE from October 22 to November 1, 2026. The page lists 10 teams, a $250,000 prize pool, best-of-three series in two groups of five, and a double-elimination playoff whose final is a best-of-five, first to three games. The title sponsor is the bookmaker PARI. The legal betting age is 18 in the UK and 21 in several US states.
Team Yandex, with ATF now in the offlane, beat Team Spirit 3-1 on October 12, 2026 to win BLAST Slam VIII. Yandex are in the same 10-team field, so a series against Malr1ne's former teammate is possible rather than fixed. Liquipedia also lists DreamLeague Season 30, from December 2 to December 13, as the next Tier 1 date after this online stop.
Nine Tier 1 titles do not travel as a set. GosuGamers called Malr1ne one of the few players who can match Nisha's impact, and that is a résumé claim about a Falcons five that no longer exists. The 65.46% win rate was theirs together. Liquid's last Tier 1 with a stand-in mid was ninth to 12th, and the TI finish with Nisha still in the chair was fifth to sixth. Signing Malr1ne closes the roster. It does not, on its own, close the gap to Yandex or Team Spirit.
Shanghai is the backdrop for the swap. Our report on Valve's seven direct invites for The International 2026 sets out how Falcons and Liquid both reached that event, which is the context this mid-lane change sits on.
