Pixbet up for sale as Brazil suspension halts platforms

Brazil’s best-known pre-regulation betting brand is looking for a buyer weeks after a Paraíba court forced its sites offline nationwide over age verification.

Pixbet is exploring a sale of its Brazilian betting business, trade outlet Next.io reported on August 4, 2026, with the story picked up by Gambling News the following day. The operator, once the biggest sponsor in Brazilian football, has been offline across Brazil since a court order took effect in July 2026. The outcome matters to anyone buying access to the world’s fastest-growing regulated betting market — and to Brazilian regulators now testing how hard they can push a licensed operator.

Key Facts:

• Pixbet holds roughly 2% of Brazil’s regulated market, with net gaming revenue of R$316 million in the six months to June 30, 2025 — Next.io
• A Campina Grande childhood and youth court ordered Pixbet, Flabet and Bet da Sorte offline within 48 hours on July 14, 2026, under a R$100,000 daily fine capped at R$100 million — iGaming Brazil
• The Paraíba Court of Appeals upheld the nationwide suspension on July 20, 2026 — iGaming Business
• Brazil’s tax on gross gaming revenue rises from 12% to 13% in 2026, 14% in 2027 and 15% from 2028 under Complementary Law 224/2025 — Yogonet
• Licensed operators grew from 49 in early 2025 to 87 by February 2026, each paying R$30 million per authorisation — Brazilian Ministry of Finance data

Why is Pixbet offline in Brazil?

On July 14, 2026, Judge João Lucas of the Childhood and Youth Court of Campina Grande, in Paraíba state, ordered Pixbet Soluções Tecnológicas to take the Pixbet, Flabet and Bet da Sorte sites down within 48 hours. The court found the operator had not adequately blocked minors from gambling. Pixbet may only resume once it demonstrates facial recognition with a “liveness” check at every login and every financial transaction.

Pixbet appealed, arguing it already ran facial biometrics and complied with federal rules. On July 20, 2026, acting judge Adílson Fabrício rejected that.

“There is no likelihood of the appeal succeeding, whereas suspending the contested decision could cause serious and irreparable harm to children and youth,” Fabrício wrote. (iGaming Business)

How did a market leader end up here?

Pixbet dominated Brazil’s grey market before licensing began on January 1, 2025, and signed a master sponsorship with Flamengo reported at about R$470 million over four years — then the largest in Brazilian football. Flamengo terminated it amid reports of late payments, and Betano took the shirt at a reported R$250 million a year.

The regulatory record is patchy too. The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets suspended Pixbet’s provisional licence in April 2025 over missing technical certification; a federal judge reversed it within days, and Pixbet later received a definitive licence valid until January 5, 2030. That licence remains in force — the current block is a court order, not a regulatory revocation.

Who would buy it?

No bidder has been named and no adviser has been confirmed. DraftKings held talks with operators in the region before deciding against entering Brazil, and no fresh approach has been reported. The commercial case is a recognised brand and a licence that would otherwise cost R$30 million; the risk is a company blocked nationwide, squeezed by a rising tax rate and facing tighter advertising rules that carry fines of up to 20% of revenue. As Brazil’s stalled casino legalisation debate shows, the policy direction is not settled either.

FAQ

Q: Has Pixbet lost its Brazilian licence?
A: No. Its federal authorisation runs to January 5, 2030. The nationwide block is a judicial order over age verification.

Q: What must Pixbet do to return?
A: Show the court that facial recognition with a liveness check runs at every login and every transaction.

Q: Is a sale confirmed?
A: No. Next.io reported the business is up for sale; Pixbet has not publicly confirmed a process, and no buyer has been identified.

Tax is squeezing operators elsewhere too — Betfred is closing 132 UK shops as duties rise.
