Matchbook buys Betdaq and shuts the exchange on October 21
On October 14, 2026, Exchange Platform Solutions Limited emailed active Betdaq customers that the exchange was closing. Trading stays open only until October 21, 2026, after Triplebet Limited bought the Betdaq brand for Matchbook.
The brand changes hands, the accounts do not
The customer FAQ EPS posted that morning draws the line the buyer does not. Triplebet acquires the Betdaq brand name and the domain names, not the customer accounts and not the customer database. Accounts will not transfer. Anyone who wants Matchbook must register separately and pass its checks.
Matchbook's post, dated Wednesday, October 14, 2026, says the Betdaq acquisition is complete and promises one deeper pool. It names no price. Racing Post industry editor Bill Barber, writing the same day, put founder Dermot Desmond's 2013 sale to Ladbrokes at €30 million (£25 million), then the repurchase from Entain eight years later.
The combined-pool line is a product ambition. It is not an account of a Betdaq login on October 21.
Dates on the Betdaq closure notice
EPS stops operating Betdaq in every jurisdiction where it runs the brand on October 21, 2026. From October 14, new registrations and deposits are blocked, except a £1 deposit used only to add a payment method. Accounts stay reachable until November 4. From November 5 the site is due to show a closure notice, and EPS says it will still handle outstanding balances.
- October 14, 2026: the deal is announced, active customers are emailed, and new registrations and deposits stop.
- October 21, 2026: betting on the exchange closes. Casino, virtuals, the sportsbook and multiples come off. Open positions can still be traded out until then.
- October 22, 2026: bets due to be voided are voided, and the stakes return to the balance.
- November 4, 2026: last day to sign in and withdraw. The minimum is £1, there is no maximum, and Betdaq charges no withdrawal fee.
- November 5, 2026: a closure notice is due on the site. Balances under £1 that stay unclaimed may go to a charity, if the law and the regulator confirm it.
- November 30, 2026: the last date for bets matched before October 14 that EPS says it will still honour. Stakes on later events are returned.
Which matched bets still settle
Bets settling on or before October 21, 2026 settle normally. Bets matched before October 14 are honoured when they settle on or before November 30, 2026, and voided by October 22, with no commission, when the event finishes after that date.
A bet placed from October 14 on a market settling after October 21 is voided too, and unmatched orders are the customer's to cancel. EPS aims at one working day to process a withdrawal, then three to five at the bank. Betdaq's About page of August 4, 2026 says BETDAQ Trustee Company Limited holds customer money in segregated accounts at the UK Gambling Commission's medium protection level.
Who holds the British licence, and who holds the Irish one
Matchbook's note says Triplebet Limited is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). The public register lists the firm under account 39504, with www.matchbook.com and predictstreet.matchbook.com both active, and www.easybet.net marked white label. Exchange Platform Solutions Limited is account 34865, head office Millennium House, Ollivier Street, Alderney, GY9 3TD, with betdaq an active trading name.
EPS holds Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) licence GRAI-0313-RBI-26-0001 for Republic of Ireland customers, and the Alderney Gambling Control Commission covers its other accepted countries. The closure FAQ also calls Matchbook GRAI-licensed. Matchbook's October 14 note does not, so this piece does not treat that as the buyer's Irish licence.
The pool McDonagh is selling
Matchbook dates itself to 2004. In 2024 it launched easyBet with easyGroup, the white-label name on account 39504. It has also moved into prediction markets with ADI PredictStreet, including markets around the FIFA World Cup 2026. The note frames the Betdaq purchase against that peer-to-peer shift, the same one visible when Polymarket and Kalshi took sportsbook handle that US books lost in the first quarter of 2026.
"Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone," said Ronan McDonagh, chief executive of Matchbook, in the firm's October 14, 2026 note. The sportsbook side of the same argument is already on file. FanDuel and DraftKings left the American Gaming Association over prediction markets, the split set out in our July 2026 account of why the two books quit the AGA.
