Gambling brands now hold the most prominent jersey position on nine of the 10 leading Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) teams in the Americas — and Riot’s guardrails keep the logos off its broadcasts, not off the shirts.
Betting companies are now the primary title sponsors of top-tier CS2 esports, per an Esports Charts analysis. In the Americas, nine of 10 teams examined carry a betting operator, crypto casino or poker platform in the most prominent jersey position; in Europe, 12 of the top 20. Esports betting generated roughly $2.8 billion in handle in 2025, CS2 and League of Legends (LoL) making up about 84%.

What Riot actually permitted
Riot’s policy, set out by John Needham, President of Publishing and Esports, lets Tier 1 LoL and VALORANT teams in the Americas and EMEA take betting sponsors — but only through vetting, and only where the partner uses GRID, Riot’s official data platform. Teams must run programmes covering integrity, youth safeguarding and responsible betting, and a share of Riot’s revenue funds Tier 2.
“We believe it’s better to engage in allowing betting sponsorships — thoughtfully, carefully, and with the right protections — than to sit on the sidelines,” said Needham. (Riot)
The guardrail that does less than it looks
The headline protection is that Riot-owned broadcasts stay betting-free: no ads, no sponsored segments, no partner logos on jerseys shown on Riot channels. That is a narrower shield than it sounds. Jersey sponsorship is valuable precisely because the jersey travels — to third-party events, team socials, highlight clips, co-streams. Removing the logo from one broadcast surface does not remove it from a teenager’s feed. With esports audiences skewing young, the distinction between “not on our broadcast” and “not in front of minors” is doing a lot of quiet work.
The funding loop deserves scrutiny too. Riot channels betting revenue into Tier 2 — exactly where integrity failures concentrate, because prize money is thin. The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) proved the point this week when it banned a CS2 professional for four years over betting-related corruption. Using gambling money to police gambling harm is defensible; it is not uncomplicated.
Who is on the shirts
Team Vitality carry Stake, MOUZ carry FONBET, and PARIVISION are named for the PARI betting operator outright. G2 Esports added Winamax as the LEC’s first betting sponsor; OG competed as OG.Dexsport. The counter-examples — Team Falcons (finance), 3DMAX (automotive), FUT Esports (telecoms) — are rare.
What This Means for Bettors
Market impact: publisher approval plus a mandated official data feed (GRID) means odds on Riot titles are priced off licensed, low-latency data rather than scraped feeds — tightening in-play markets and narrowing arbitrage windows.
One concrete read: watch whether books expand LoL and VALORANT in-play markets over the next two quarters. Official-data mandates historically precede deeper live markets, because risk teams price what they can verify. If they do not widen, the data cost is being passed on and margins stay wide.
Where the legal markets are: esports betting is regulated in Great Britain by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) and in Ontario by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO); the legal age is 18 in both. Integrity is separately monitored by ESIC — see our coverage of the Thunderpick World Championship’s South American series.
Figures correct as of July 12, 2026. Informational only — not financial or betting advice. Esports audiences skew young; the legal betting age is 18 in the UK, 18 or 21 in the US. See Responsible Gambling notice below.
